Ben Hoover began his television career while in college as a weekend assignment editor at the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, WKRC-TV. After graduation he interned at CNN in Atlanta before taking his first fulltime job as an associate producer at the CBS affiliate in Macon, WMAZ-TV. He was quickly promoted to producer, then reporter, and then morning anchor. Ben made his way to South Carolina by way of WHNS-TV, the FOX affiliate in Greenville. While in the Upstate, he helped launch the station’s first morning news program as co-anchor. Most recently, Ben spent 6 years at the NBC affiliate in Columbia, WIS-TV. As a prime time anchor of three newscasts and host of a Sunday morning local version of Meet the Press, Ben anchored coverage of the Mark Sanford affair scandal, the GOP’s First in the South Presidential Primary, and the inauguration of South Carolina’s first woman and minority elected to the Governor’s office. Along the way he’s interviewed the likes of Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and Nikki Haley.
As a media and communications consultant, Ben uses his more than 15 years of television experience to provide others with on-camera coaching, social media consulting and strategy, and navigating both the broadcast and digital news media.
Ben delivers speeches and hosts events and fundraisers for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, South Carolina Hospital Association, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Home Builders Association, and The Junior League of Columbia.
Ben earned a BFA in Electronic Media from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. He is a proud recipient of the electronic media division’s Frederic Ziv Award for outstanding achievement in telecommunications.
